NRC ends work on three proposed rules for securing spent fuel
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Wednesday announced it was discontinuing three rulemaking activities intended to enhance the security of a deep geologic repository and the protection of spent nuclear fuel.
The NRC said that, among other reasons, it has decided not to proceed with the previously proposed rules due to a change in agency priorities resulting from President Trump’s Executive Order (EO) 14300, “Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.”

Patrick Blaise is currently scientific advisor for Gen2&3 and SMR R&D programs at the Scientific Division for Energies at CEA (French Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission), in charge of co-building the Simulation and Experiment R&D roadmap for the next decade. He was former Chief Scientist for CEA Research Reactor network, technical correspondent for several international collaborations, and head of the Experimental Programs Laboratory (LPE), in charge of 3 main ZPRs (EOLE, MINERVE and MASURCA) at CEA Cadarache Research Centre.
