WIPP: Lessons in transportation safety
As part of a future consent-based approach by the federal government to site new deep geologic repositories for nuclear waste, local communities and states that are considering hosting such facilities are sure to have many questions. Currently, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico is the only example of such a repository in operation, and it offers the opportunity for state and local officials to visit and judge for themselves the risks and benefits of hosting a similar facility. But its history can also provide lessons for these officials, particularly the political process leading up to the opening of WIPP, the safety of WIPP operations and transportation of waste from generator facilities to the site, and the economic impacts the project has had on the local area of Carlsbad, as well as the rest of the state of New Mexico.

You just can’t beat dinner with a view. Enjoy fabulous views of the city skyline as we cruise the three Pittsburgh rivers: the Ohio, Allegheny, and Monongahela. You’ll be treated to beautiful scenery as we pass historic landmarks and other points of interest along the rivers. These dinner cruises are great for families, date night, or an evening out with friends.
The Gateway Clipper Fleet offers full-service bars with specialty cocktails served Pittsburgh-style! Beyond the bubbly, you’re sure to enjoy the dinner menu, including dishes like parmesan crusted chicken breast with sundried tomato, mashed potatoes, and vegetable paella rice pilaf. If barbecue is more your taste, you can’t miss our Chicken & Ribs Pittsburgh dinner cruise. We serve up spice rubbed pork ribs, chicken leg quarters, and three-cheese baked macaroni and cheese.
As you sit back and enjoy your meal, take in the beautiful riverside scenery and make memories with your loved ones. The Sunset Dinner Cruise offers the perfect opportunity to unwind after a long day. Another popular dine and cruise event is the Pittsburgh Wine Tasting, featuring wines from around the world.
