Reprocessing and recycling used nuclear fuel are recently receiving increased discussion and consideration. When compared with direct disposal, reprocessing and recycling are an option to provide potential economic benefits, reduce front and back-end fuel cycle impacts, and improve domestic security of supply. This workshop aims to improve participants’ familiarity with the characteristics of used nuclear fuel, the components of a typical reprocessing plant, the major reprocessing technology options, and the typical waste forms resulting from reprocessing.
