North American construction is back—smaller and faster—at OPG’s Darlington
“The nuclear renaissance is real here,” said Ontario Power Generation’s Subo Sinnathamby on May 8, one year to the day after OPG secured a final investment decision to build the first of four planned BWRX-300 reactors at its Darlington nuclear power plant, and shortly after the new reactor’s foundation was lifted into place. “We got our license to construct in April and our [final investment decision] in May, and we’ve been off to the races since.”

Join us at the American Nuclear Society Global 2026 Conference for a workshop on nuclear material control and accounting (MC&A), powered by Sandia National Laboratories’ Material Accountancy Performance Indicator Toolkit (MAPIT). Course objectives include an MC&A introduction, MAPIT installation/introduction, an overview of domestic regulatory guidelines and statistical foundations, MC&A key definitions and formulas and hands-on MAPIT exercises.
Using a HALEU fuel fabrication facility as a reference, participants will: define measurement points and uncertainties, compute relevant MC&A equations (such as inventory difference and its associated standard error), implement and compare measurement control programs, and simulate anomalies to practice root‐cause analysis. These scenarios can be directly translated from practice to purpose using MAPIT to detect, investigate, and propose corrective and preventive actions. Participants will gain a fundamental and practical understanding of the statistical MC&A challenges and resolutions for domestic nuclear fuel cycle facilities.
