From South Korea to Belgium: Testing a high-density research reactor fuel
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has developed a high-density uranium silicide fuel designed to replace high-enriched uranium in research reactors. Recent irradiation tests appear to be successful, KAERI reports, which means the fuel could be commercialized to continue a key global nuclear nonproliferation effort—converting research reactors to run on low-enriched uranium fuel.

Proceedings | Nuclear Plant Instrumentation, Control, and Human-Machine Interface Technolgies (NPIC&HMIT 2019) | Orlando, FL, February 9-14, 2019 | Pages 1330-1335
The FRAMATOME (formerly AREVA NP) global HFE team ensures the suitability of modernized and new-build plants design for reliable operation and maintenance. The paper provides insights into the current work portfolio, innovations in HMI and usability testing, and advances in Reliability Engineering. The followed approach towards reliable plant operation, the analysis, design guidance, and evaluation methods thereby applied, and the practice of their use - aided by the evolving database of operator tasks and task support characteristics required for reliable task completion - are described.
