Nuclear power plants across the U.S. must become more efficient in their operations to remain cost competitive with alternative energy sources. Data driven condition monitoring for maintenance provides a promising avenue for reducing the operational costs. A critical element to data driven condition monitoring is effective visualizations to convey actionable information to the operator to support their decision making and enable preventative maintenance without causing the plant to come offline and lose revenue. This paper describes the state of visualization in the current fleet or nuclear power plants, the existing visualization technologies and techniques the nuclear industry can embrace now, and cutting-edge or state-of-the-art visualization techniques the nuclear industry should invest time and money in researching and developing to enable more efficient condition monitoring for maintenance activities.
