MIT professor develops method to verify compliance with Outer Space Treaty
Danagoulian
Areg Danagoulian of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is proposing a mechanism for verifying that Earth-orbiting satellites are in compliance with the Outer Space Treaty, which prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons in space. Danagoulian’s “concept and feasibility study,” titled “Verification of the Outer Space Treaty with cosmic protons,” was published recently in the journal Nature.

Measurement in two phase flow has always been a difficult and important research point. A three-layers wire mesh sensor(WMS) is manufactured to measure the important interfacial parameters in two phase flow. This paper carries out single bubble experiments to verify the measurement accuracy in principle. The mechanism of the three-layers WMS, the velocity and volume measure results and the image reconstructions of the flow field are presented in this paper. And the measurement error of velocity and volume and the distortion in the image reconstructions are analyzed in detail.
