Hash Hashemian: Visionary leadership
As Dr. Hashem M. “Hash” Hashemian prepares to step into his term as President of the American Nuclear Society, he is clear that he wants to make the most of this unique moment.

General optimization guidance is given for Monte Carlo calculations involving actinide photon sources and various thicknesses of generic shields. Both energy- and position-dependent importances are calculated for the shields, and the use of this information is discussed. Examples are given for a typical actinide source.
