Swiss nuclear power and the case for long-term operation
Designed for 40 years but built to last far longer, Switzerland’s nuclear power plants have all entered long-term operation. Yet age alone says little about safety or performance. Through continuous upgrades, strict regulatory oversight, and extensive aging management, the country’s reactors are being prepared for decades of continued operation, in line with international practice.

Using the weighted least-squares fit of the curve count rate versus time, we have measured the half-life of 165Dy and found its value to be 140.02 ± 0.36 min. This value was checked by measurements of thermal-neutron flux using a dysprosium foil, assuming a number of values of T1/2 clustered around the previously determined value.
