Argonne updates: Fuel research and materials lab
Over the past two weeks, Argonne National Laboratory has announced numerous significant advancements being made by its staff to push forward nuclear fuels and materials research. Those announcements include the opening of the new Activated Materials Lab, the development of a new measurement technique, and the application of new artificial intelligence tools.

Recent developments concerning the mechanism for volume diffusion of xenon in UO2 and the defects observed in irradiated UO2 by electron microscopy are reviewed with detailed reference to recent results obtained at Chalk River Nuclear Laboratory (CRNL). An earlier interpretation for xenon diffusion in a matrix containing pre-existing and irradiation induced trapping sites is extended.
