A program was undertaken to confirm the use of boron stainless steel in the Indian Point reactor. Manufacturing and welding techniques were developed for the production of high-quality tubing and suitable end-closure welds. Subsequent analyses showed that the boron in the steel had little effect on the steel's properties and that radiation effects do not detract from its utility as fuel cladding.
