The need for professional action to provide public information by each American Nuclear Society (ANS) member is based on our current domestic and international energy-related problems. Selected history of public information since the founding of the ANS through to its current activities provides a focus for future communication needs. Future efforts must be concentrated on key legislative groups, mass media, labor organizations, and local citizenry to convey an objective, well-rounded understanding of the benefits and risks of nuclear power.
