This division promotes the development and timely introduction of fusion energy as a sustainable energy source with favorable economic, environmental, and safety attributes. College students help develop waste-measuring device at Hanford
A partnership between Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) and Washington State University has resulted in the development of a device to measure radioactive and chemical tank waste at the Hanford Site. WRPS is the contractor at Hanford for the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management.

The spontaneous fission branching ratios (B) of even-Z, 90 Z 100, nuclei were found to be correlated to log B = 1.6247 × Z - 1.0361(2Z - N) - 114.66. Based on this correlation, it is predicted that the isotopes 226Ra and 228Th are spontaneous fission isotopes.
