IAEA program uses radioisotopes to protect rhinos
After two years of testing, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, have begun officially implementing the Rhisotope Project, an innovative effort to combat rhino poaching and trafficking by leveraging nuclear technology.

Chemical processing for the recovery and purification of carrier-free I125 produced by bombardment of isotopically enriched Te125 with protons in the ORNL 86-Inch Cyclotron was accomplished by selective distillations; Mn54 was separated from a Cr54 target by ion exchange. The enriched Te125 and Cr54 were recovered for re-use.
