An analysis is made in order to estimate how much heat may be removed from a fuel element subassembly in air. The two following cases are considered: 1. The reactor core as a whole is exposed to the atmosphere while the individual subassemblies remain in place. 2. The subassembly in question has been removed from the core and is individually exposed to the atmosphere.
