NEUP honors young ANS members with R&D awards
Each year, the Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP) recognizes graduate and undergraduate students for their innovative nuclear energy research. The winners of the Innovations in Nuclear Energy Research and Development Student Competition (INSC) receive honoraria along with travel and conference opportunities, including the chance to present their publications at the annual American Nuclear Society Winter Conference & Expo.

The behavior of neutrons within an absorbing rod is determined through an orders of scattering analysis. Application of the results to practical problems of reactor analysis is presented to illustrate the method’s utility. Several comparisons between calculated and experimental quantities are included to check the theory’s veracity. Finally, tables of calculated results are presented which allow the reader to apply the techniques of this paper to his own problems.
