DOE announces NEPA exclusion for advanced reactors
The Department of Energy has announced that it is establishing a categorical exclusion for the application of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) procedures to the authorization, siting, construction, operation, reauthorization, and decommissioning of advanced nuclear reactors.
According to the DOE, this significant change, which goes into effect today, “is based on the experience of DOE and other federal agencies, current technologies, regulatory requirements, and accepted industry practice.”

A new laser Raman analytical system using optical fibers and a multi-channel detection system with a liquid nitrogen cooled CCD detector made it possible to carry out remote analysis of hydrogen isotope gases in a process piping inside a glove box. With the system the current detection limit for T2 gas was 1.6 kPa. 0.6 kPa and 0.3 kPa for analytical periods of 1. 10 and 100 seconds.
