DOE announces NEPA exclusion for advanced reactors
The Department of Energy has announced that it is establishing a categorical exclusion for the application of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) procedures to the authorization, siting, construction, operation, reauthorization, and decommissioning of advanced nuclear reactors.
According to the DOE, this significant change, which goes into effect today, “is based on the experience of DOE and other federal agencies, current technologies, regulatory requirements, and accepted industry practice.”

The problem of creating a high-density, high-current neutralized beam in a closed configuration via a continuous particle injection and accumulation has been considered in relation to the research on a colliding beam fusion process.
The last results, oriented to the development of a basic neutralized beam experiment, are discussed.
The theory of resistive wall injection of a charged particle ring is reviewed and the application to the simultaneous injection of electron and ion rings is introduced.
