Brazilian model, nuclear advocate, and philanthropist Isabelle Boemeke, who the online TED lecture series describes as “the world’s first nuclear energy influencer,” was the subject of a recent New York Times article that explored her ardent support for and advocacy of nuclear technology.

The Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor (ALMR) program led by General Electric is developing, under U.S. Department of Energy sponsorship, a conceptual design for an advanced sodium-cooled liquid metal reactor plant. A dual purpose electric/desalinization plant concept which makes use of the many positive features of the Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor (ALMR) is described. The environmental advantages of the facility in terms of fossil and nuclear fuel-conservation and the impact on waste management strategies are also discussed.
