DTRA’s advancements in nuclear and radiological detection
A new, more complex nuclear age has begun. Echoing the tensions of the Cold War amid rapidly evolving nuclear and radiological threats, preparedness in the modern age is a contest of scientific innovation. The Research and Development Directorate (RD) at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is charged with winning this contest.

The relative effectiveness of reducing neutron induced responses in a building by borating the concrete wall was examined. Discussions are presented for the three major variables affecting the boration effectiveness - boron concentration, boration thickness and the area of coverage. Only the generalized neutron sources and room scattering conditions have been used. The data and formula derived from this analysis are useful in the study of design variations.
