DOE announces NEPA exclusion for advanced reactors
The Department of Energy has announced that it is establishing a categorical exclusion for the application of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) procedures to the authorization, siting, construction, operation, reauthorization, and decommissioning of advanced nuclear reactors.
According to the DOE, this significant change, which goes into effect today, “is based on the experience of DOE and other federal agencies, current technologies, regulatory requirements, and accepted industry practice.”

In this paper we present the hydrogen diffusivity and solubility in the carbon fibre composite (CFC) SEP N11 with tri-directional fibres structure that is a possible candidate as armour material for plasma facing components (PFC). The technique used for these measurements is a gas evolution method and the measurements were carried out in the temperature range 900 – 1200 K with a loading hydrogen pressure of 100 kPa. The results obtained showed that the Sieverts' constant Ks is of the same order of magnitude as those previously obtained for several graphites, while the diffusivity is about five to six orders of magnitude higher as compared to graphites. Furthermore, CFC presents an endothermic behaviour in contrast to graphites.
