DTRA’s advancements in nuclear and radiological detection
A new, more complex nuclear age has begun. Echoing the tensions of the Cold War amid rapidly evolving nuclear and radiological threats, preparedness in the modern age is a contest of scientific innovation. Some physical and engineering aspects of a D-3He-fueled fusion power plant based on the pulsatory field-reversed configuration are considered. The results of preliminary technical and economical factors and optimization calculations are given. An increase in the “aneutronics factor” of such a reactor is shown to result in higher costs.
