Swiss nuclear power and the case for long-term operation
Designed for 40 years but built to last far longer, Switzerland’s nuclear power plants have all entered long-term operation. Yet age alone says little about safety or performance. Lumped parameter kinetic equations for the (n)-Li-(T)D-( n) chain reaction are derived and compared with the corresponding equation for the fission chain reaction. The kinetic behavior of the fusion chain is examined in the quasi-state approximation, the validity of which is briefly assessed.
