The paper presents the results of the pre-operational environmental monitoring program for the Experimental Pilot Plant for Tritium and Deuterium Separation. The tritium baseline was established in surface water samples, air, precipitation, crops, fish, meat and milk. The paper also summarizes the azeotropic distillation procedure used to extract water from samples and problems encountered during its use.
