Playing the “bad guy” to enhance next-generation safety
Sometimes, cops and robbers is more than just a kid’s game. The corners on hohlraums can plate at different rates than the hohlraum body during electrolytic deposition of gold on the mandrel used to form the hohlraum shape. The diameter of the mandrel, the radius of the corner, the current density, and whether the corner is convex or concave are factors that influence the plating rate in the corner. These effects are described in this paper.
