Education and training to support Canadian nuclear workforce development
Along with several other nations, Canada has committed to net-zero emissions by 2050. Part of this plan is tripling nuclear generating capacity. As of 2025, the country has four operating nuclear generating stations with a total of 17 reactors, 16 of which are in the province of Ontario. The Independent Electricity System Operator has recommended that an additional 17,800 MWe of nuclear power be added to Ontario’s grid.
FCWMD advances the safe, responsible, and innovative management of the entire nuclear fuel cycle—from resource extraction to waste disposal—through technical exchange, policy development, and support for future nuclear professionals.

The Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Division is one of the largest and most active within ANS, covering the entire nuclear fuel cycle—from mining and enrichment to waste processing and national policy.
We focus heavily on technical program development, contributing to both ANS national and topical conferences. The division also supports ANS membership through collaboration, recognition through awards, scholarships, and more!
Make your voice in support of all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle count! New division members are always welcome—no experience needed.
