The Education, Training & Workforce Development Division provides communication among the academic, industrial, and governmental communities through the exchange of views and information on matters related to education, training and workforce development in nuclear and radiological science, engineering, and technology. Industry leaders, education and training professionals, and interested students work together through Society-sponsored meetings and publications, to enrich their professional development, to educate the general public, and to advance nuclear and radiological science and engineering.

NWMO chooses vendors for Canadian repository
Canada’s Nuclear Waste Management Organization has selected five companies it is to work with to design and plan the organization’s proposed deep geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel. As the owner of the project, the NWMO will be working with WSP Canada, Peter Kiewit Sons (Kiewit), Hatch Ltd., Thyssen Mining Construction of Canada, and Kinectrics.

The Cost Reduction Opportunities Track will explore Industry cost trends and analysis in O&M, Capital & Staffing with areas for specific cost reduction opportunities. The track continues with insights into current Nuclear Life Extension initiatives with key fleet operators. Next on our track agenda is a discussion of Risk Informed Initiatives in Fire Protection, Surveillance Requirements and others. We continue with a regularoty update, new tools and techniques used in security and radiation areas and application of automated devices. Next, we analyze federal incentive programs and their applications and innovative cost saving strategies including Integrated Operations. Lastly, we have a fascinating presentation of cost savings by the Norway North Sea Oil and Gas Corporations.
This first session will present an indepth analysis of industry cost and staffing data, identifying key trends and best practices in O&M and Capital spending reductions plus insights into staffing optimizations across the nuclear enterprise. Relationships between cost performance quartiles and actual cost reductions will be examined.
