From uncertainty to vitality: The future of nuclear energy in Illinois
Nuclear is enjoying a bit of a resurgence. The momentum for reliable energy to support economic development around the country—specifically data centers and AI—remains strong, and strongly in favor of nuclear. Dr. Vefa Kucukboyaci is a consulting engineer for the Westinghouse Digital and Innovation Organization. He is currently engaged in the eVinci microreactor development program, with an instrumental role in modeling and simulation, particularly in safety analysis, nuclear core design, and TRISO fuel performance areas. With more than 23 years of nuclear industry experience, he has held numerous technical positions at Westinghouse supporting different organizations, including nuclear core design methods, LOCA analysis, spent fuel pool criticality, and Westinghouse SMR development.
Dr. Kucukboyaci holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.
