60 Years of U: Perspectives on resources, demand, and the evolving role of nuclear energy
Recent years have seen growing global interest in nuclear energy and rising confidence in the sector. For the first time since the early 2000s, there is renewed optimism about the industry’s future. This change is driven by several major factors: geopolitical developments that highlight the need for secure energy supplies, a stronger focus on resilient energy systems, national commitments to decarbonization, and rising demand for clean and reliable electricity.

Recently there are active developments in digital twin technologies across multiple sectors of the nuclear industry for optimized design and operation. At the same time, robotics and remote systems technologies have also gone though digital transformations with integration of a multitude of emerging digital technologies such as advanced sensors, telerobotics, modeling and simulation, virtual-/augmented-reality, IT, and big data. As a result, advanced robotics solutions can now be developed cheaper, faster, and with enhanced intelligence and distributed control. There is a great opportunity, by integrating robotics and nuclear digital twins, to further enhance performance and viability for broader applications in the nuclear industry. The objective of this panel session is to bring together the opinion leaders in broad sectors of the nuclear industry to share their experiences and visions for robotic digital twin technologies for applications in the nuclear industry.
