RIC session focuses on interagency collaboration
Attendees at last week’s 2026 Regulatory Information Conference, hosted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, saw extensive discussion of new reactor technologies, uprates, fusion, multiunit deployments, supply chain, and much more.
With the industry in a state of rapid evolution, there was much to discuss. Connected to all these topics was one central theme: the ongoing changes at the NRC. With massively shortened timelines, the ADVANCE Act and Executive Order 14300, and new interagency collaboration and authorization pathways in mind, speakers spent much of the RIC exploring what the road ahead looks like for the NRC.

Nuclear Power has played an important role in meeting the world’s electrical energy needs for 50+ years. And with the nation’s power demand rising dramatically in the decades ahead, Nuclear Power will be indispensable in meeting the concurrent challenges of reliability, affordability, and air pollution reduction.
Building upon its long-standing commitment to its existing fleet of four traditional nuclear power stations, Dominion Energy is actively exploring the potential benefits of the next generation of nuclear technology. Sometimes tagged “New Nuclear,” a variety of advanced and small modular reactor (SMR) designs are being examined with the ultimate goal of adding the first unit to our North Anna Power Station.
As Dominion Energy pursues the next generation of nuclear power technology, it is essential for the company to effectively navigate the evolving regulatory environment. The Senior Strategic Advisor will be responsible for the development and implementation of regulatory strategies, policies and standards, processes and procedures for the “New Nuclear” program. The role will embrace a broad scope of initiatives and activities to include:
