Coming up: The 4th annual ARCSC workshop

More details: The ARCSC was created in 2022 to ensure the development, alignment, and timely availability of U.S., Canadian, and international codes and standards (C&S) needed to support large-scale advanced reactor deployment. The collaborative is facilitated by the Nuclear Energy Institute and EPRI as part of the C&S actions identified in the NEI/EPRI North American Advanced Reactor Roadmap (the Roadmap). The American Nuclear Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Canadian Standards Association are founding members of the ARCSC.

The agenda: The full workshop agenda is available online. An abbreviated version is provided below:

• 9:05–9:10 a.m.: Review of agenda and workshop purpose.
• 9:10–9:25 a.m.: ARCSC progress to date.
• 9:25–10:15 a.m.: EPRI/NEI North American Advanced Reactor Roadmap, rev. 1.
• This session will feature discussion on changes to the Roadmap rev. 1 report, a summary of new action items for standards development organizations and the ARCSC, commercializing advanced manufacturing capabilities, the development of codes and standards, and more.
• 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.: Designer feedback.
• 12:45–1:05 p.m.: Engagement from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on its advanced reactor progress and feedback on standards development organizations’ high priorities, provided in the letter from the ARCSC to the NRC.
• 1:05–2:35 p.m.: Guided discussion on risk-informed, performance-based (RIPB) industry needs.
• 2:50–3:50 p.m.: Guided discussion on an RIPB standard for civil structures, where the standard will explicitly address quality.
• 3:50–4:30 p.m.: Incorporating artificial intelligence into work and applications, and how to approach and controls needed for AI.
• 4:30–5:00 p.m.: Wrap-up and follow-up actions.
