The accounting firm Deloitte on September 21 issued a report on the decarbonization strategies of 22 utilities in the United States.

The 38-page report, Utility decarbonization strategies: Renew, reshape, and refuel to zero, is available online.

A summary of the report is available here.

According to Deloitte: The report states that there are significant gaps between the utilities’ scheduled capacity retirements and additions and the flexibility requirements needed to achieve full decarbonization by 2050.

Regarding nuclear: The report notes that keeping nuclear in service may require subsidization and/or policy support, such as the zero-emissions credits offered in New York and Illinois.
