The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy will hold a webinar on August 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (EDT) to discuss commercial-scale facility and transportation criticality analyses for the high-assay low-enriched uranium fuel cycle.

Those interested in attending the workshop can register using this link.

This webinarthe second in a seriesdirectly supports the executive orders signed in May as part of the DOE/NRC Collaboration for Criticality Safety Support for Commercial-Scale HALEU Fuel Cycles and Transportation.

The goal of this collaboration is to develop criticality safety data to facilitate licensing of HALEU fuel cycle and transportation systems. According to the NRC, many new advanced reactors require HALEU fuel, and the agency’s partnership with the DOE is critical to develop the necessary data and regulatory framework for its safe and timely deployment.
