Later in January, I attended BWX Technologies’ Centrifuge Manufacturing Development Facility (CMDF) launch event in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Touring the facility with a small group offered a firsthand look at a critical new capability. The CMDF is a key element of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s contract for a comprehensive program to ensure a secure and reliable supply of enriched uranium for defense fuel needs. Both the NEMS event and the tour of BWXT’s new facility showcased the excitement and possibilities for nuclear’s future—especially in East Tennessee.
Next, I am looking forward to helping to inspire the future workforce. In support of ANS’s goal to attract young people to nuclear from elementary school through college, I am currently collaborating with my team at AMS Corporation to host a field trip of kindergartners to tour our facilities and learn more about the nuclear field. We will host a group of about 15 children along with parents with plans to tie in a tour of the nuclear technology lab at Roane State Community College.
Looking ahead, as I enter the final quarter of my term as ANS president, I am focused on a singular goal: to raise significant philanthropic funds to ensure that the Society continues to invest in the nuclear workforce, inspiring a pipeline of talent that addresses current needs and meets the demands of emerging technologies.
This is where you come in. I call on our ANS members to join me in this effort to secure donations in support of your Society. Throughout 2026, you will see our fundraising campaign unfold with stories highlighting our programs and celebrating our donors as well as information about ways to give, how your gift advances our work, and the tiered recognition benefits befitting your generosity.
