Energy Secretary Chris Wright will attend the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative in Aiken, S.C., on August 7. Wright will deliver remarks and join Savannah River National Laboratory leadership and partners for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The AMC, located on the campus of the University of South Carolina–Aiken, will provide a platform for public-private partnerships to improve advanced manufacturing in areas such as additive manufacturing, AI-driven automation, energy resilience, and nuclear applications. The facility will be a catalyst for regional economic and technological growth while supporting partnerships and technology commercialization, according to the Department of Energy.

Current industry partners include Siemens, Silica-X, General Atomics, Antares, Gravitas, and NuVision, among others.

By the numbers: The AMC contains 63,000 square feet across two floors; a 92,000-cubic-foot high bay; 16 lab spaces, classrooms, and offices; and a conference room large enough for more than 70 attendees. The building will also be LEED Silver certified, meaning it has met specific standards for sustainability and environmental performance.

Technical capabilities: The AMC’s focus will be on additive manufacturing, materials design and processing, the fusion fuel cycle, operational technology cybersecurity, AI, and automation.
