With President Trump on a state visit to the U.K., in part to sign a landmark new agreement on U.S.-U.K. nuclear collaboration, a flurry of transatlantic partnerships and deals bridging the countries’ nuclear sectors have been announced.

The American Nuclear Society is taking an active role in this bridge-building by forming a reciprocal membership agreement with the U.K.’s Nuclear Institute.

This agreement will allow members of ANS and NI to enjoy each organization’s respective perks while also representing a shared commitment to facilitate the rapidly deepening ties between the United States and the United Kingdom as both countries pursue their own new nuclear buildout.

The details: Benefits on offer for current members of either organization include the following:

  • Discounted, member-rate access to conferences, workshops, and webinars.
  • Access to each organization’s technical publications and digital resources.
  • Expanded professional development opportunities.

This membership offer is good for one year, starting from an applicant’s join date. On the ANS side in particular, membership also guarantees access to Society-hosted webinars that are only available to members. It also includes access to Professional Division membership and full access to the Digital Nuclear Library, including ANS’s expansive 66-year archive of Nuclear News and 31-year archive of Radwaste Solutions.

How to apply: Current NI members residing in the U.S. permanently or on assignment can apply for a reciprocal membership to ANS by filling out a form on the ANS website. Current ANS members can begin their application process to NI on the institute’s website.

Word from the CEOs: On this new agreement, Robert Gofton, CEO of the Nuclear Institute, said, “Global cooperation is critical to addressing the challenges and opportunities of nuclear energy today and this agreement reflects the strong ties between the UK and US nuclear communities.”

Craig Piercy, Executive Director/CEO of ANS, said “The nuclear professional community extends across borders, and our members are at the forefront of tackling shared challenges such as clean energy, lifesaving healthcare, innovation, and workforce development. This agreement with the Nuclear Institute enhances our ability to connect professionals worldwide, share expertise, and strengthen the impact of nuclear science and technology.”
