Energy company Ansaldo Energia recently hosted a ceremony at its headquarters in Genoa, Italy, marking the launch of the Master in Technologies for Nuclear Power Plants program, which it developed in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano. A call for graduates in engineering, physics, and chemistry issued in May attracted more than 300 applications, 26 of which were selected for the program.
Work experience and study: All program participants (21 men and 5 women) have been placed in industrial and technological development projects with Ansaldo Energia. The program consists of 1,500 hours of study, including 400 hours of lectures.
The lecturers and instructors are professors from Politecnico di Milano, members of the university’s International Consortium for Nuclear Technology Research, professors from the University of Genoa, and researchers from Italy’s National Institute for Nuclear Physics. Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Italian Nuclear Association, radioactive waste management firm Sogin-Nucleco, and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre are also participating in the program.
Tangible contribution: Speaking at the Genoa ceremony, Ansaldo Nucleare CEO Daniela Gentile, said, “With this project, we wanted to make a tangible contribution to the training of young professionals in the nuclear field, which is experiencing renewed global interest and where our company is playing a leading role in important projects. We are also proud to have attracted to Genoa talented young people who will further enrich the already strong ecosystem of nuclear expertise present in our city.”
