Each spring, newly elected leaders prepare to step into their roles at the American Nuclear Society. During this year’s election cycle, ANS members voted for the newest vice president/president-elect and five board of director positions (four U.S., one non-U.S.). About 19 percent of eligible members of the Society voted—a 2 percent dip from last year’s turnout.

Steinman

Meet the vice president/president elect

The Society’s next vice president/president-elect is Rebecca Steinman. An ANS member since 1993, Steinman is the senior manager of licensing at Constellation and the chair of ANS’s Certification and Workforce Development Committee. She served on the ANS Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to be elected ANS vice president/president-elect, and I thank the membership for placing their trust in me. I look forward to working with our dedicated volunteers, staff, and partners to strengthen member value, grow our community and credentials program, and advocate for the expanded use of nuclear technologies,” Steinman told Nuclear News.

Peters

Steinman will succeed current ANS vice president/president-elect Mark Peters, who will assume the office of president following the upcoming ANS Annual Conference in early June.

The newest directors

Kirsten Laurin-Kovitz, an ANS member since 2013, is the associate laboratory director of nuclear technologies and national security at Argonne National Laboratory.

Leah Parks, an ANS member since 2007, is a siting manager for Kairos Power. She previously served in several roles at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Sandra Sloan, an ANS member since 1990, is a senior advisor of product development at BWXT Advanced Technologies.

Paul Wilson, an ANS member since 1992, is the Grainger Professor of Nuclear Engineering and chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering & Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Catherine Prat, the non-U.S. director and an ANS member since 2012, is a lead engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company working in Bulgaria.
