House Passes H.R. 1551

Tracy Marc|

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 1551 on June 20 which will extend tax credits to new nuclear reactors currently under construction and lifts the restriction for nuclear power plants to enter into service by 2020 in order to benefit from the production tax credit.

The White House posted a Statement of Policy shortly after the bill was passed in which it was stated, "The bill would fulfill the President’s commitment to the continuation of nuclear energy as a major contributor to our Nation’s energy production and security."

Passage of the bill is crucial to the future of the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station Units 2 and 3 in South Carolina and Plant Vogtle units 3 & 4 in Georgia.
