Climate Change Declaration Issued by INSC

The International Nuclear Societies Council (INSC), representing 38 member societies, has issued a Declaration by Societies of Nuclear Scientists and Engineers about Climate Change. The Declaration outlines the group's recommendations for the path forward to reach the climate change goals indicated in the COP21 climate agreement reached in Paris in December 2015.

The document was approved by unanimous vote at the INSC’s September 27 meeting in Vienna, Austria. It is being distributed to energy policymakers, industry representatives, the public, traditional news media, and social media.

The list of recommendations was first announced publicly during the European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF) in Bratislava, Slovakia, on October 4 by Jean-Pol Poncelet, FORATOM Director General, and copies were distributed there by Poncelet and Vladimir Slugen of the Slovak Nuclear Society.

The Declaration has been distributed to all National Focal Points (NPFs) participating in COP 21 and COP 22 (to be held November 7-18 in Marrakech, Morocco) with the request that they distribute it to each member of their respective COP delegations.
