Risk Informed Standards Committee (RISC)

The Risk Informed Standards Committee has the following scope:
The American Nuclear Society Risk Informed Standards Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards that establish safety and risk criteria and methods for probabilistic analysis, risk assessment, and risk management.  These criteria and methods are applicable to design, development, construction, operation, decontamination and decommissioning, waste management, and environmental restoration for nuclear facilities.
Currently the RISC Committee is overseeing five standards projects.  ANSI/ANS-58.21, "External Events in PRA Methodology," was approved and published in 2003.  Its complements, ANS-58.22, "Low Power and Shutdown PRA Methodology," and ANS-58.23, "Standard on Methodology for Fire PRA," are nearing completion.  Recently, the Nuclear Risk Management Coordinating Committee (NRMCC) has assigned two new standards projects on probability risk assessments for Level 2 and Level 3 events.
