Free ANS Webinar on Navigating Nuclear

ANS will conduct a free webinar Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET introducing the Society’s K-12 nuclear energy education program, Navigating Nuclear: Energizing Our World™. ANS Past President Eric Loewen and leader of the Navigating Nuclear Subject Matter Expert Team, and ANS’s Education and Outreach Specialist Janice Lindegard will provide a closer look at the program’s curriculum and resources.

The webinar will outline materials and resources ANS is preparing to assist its own members as well as individuals and members of other organizations in incorporating Navigating Nuclear in their outreach efforts.

The curriculum targets U.S. middle school and includes two digital lessons: one covering nuclear energy and another on measuring radiation. Three STEM starters for project-based learning are also included as capstone experiences for the curriculum. Profiles of three ANS members from three areas of nuclear help teachers extend the program learning into career exploration. A virtual field trip, featuring a behind-the-scenes tour of Palo Verde Generating Station, the largest power plant in the U.S., will premiere October 15, 2018.

The “Introducing Navigating Nuclear” webinar is open to anyone interested in learning more about the program curriculum; ANS membership is not required. For more information about Navigating Nuclear, contact outreach@ans.org.
