New ANS Science News Award

Recognizes former ANS communications staff member Darlene Schmidt

The ANS Communications Committee has launched the new bi-annual Darlene Schmidt Science News Award to acknowledge an accurate, innovative, and well-researched science-related media story, or portfolio of stories, readily accessible to the general public. The award is intended to draw the public’s attention to quality media coverage related to science, technology, engineering and math, including, but not exclusive to, nuclear applications. The committee is seeking nominations for journalists and science writers who demonstrate keen effort to report on the work of professionals in nuclear science and technology fields.

The awardee(s) will be invited to the American Nuclear Society’s Winter Meeting, October 29–November 2, 2017, at the Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C. to participate in Focus on Communications sessions and meet with ANS members. The award is funded through a generous donation by an ANS member.

Nominations may be submitted by ANS members, self-nomination or by the public.
