NEIMA Breezes Through Senate Committee

The Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act (NEIMA) easily passed through the Environment and Public Works Committee today, 18-3. According to Reuters news service, the committee's chairman, Republican Senator James Inhofe, said the bill is "critical for the revitalization and improvement of our nation's nuclear energy industry."

ANS President Andy Klein commented, “We are pleased with the bipartisan support the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act received in today’s committee markup. The bill would provide much-needed support to ensure future access to abundant clean energy and to maintain U.S. influence over global nuclear safety and nonproliferation norms. We look forward to continuing to work with members of Congress in support of these goals.”
