Kentucky Considers Lifting Nuclear Moratorium

Tracy Marc|

The future of Kentucky's energy production might have nuclear energy added to the mix.

Senate Bill 11 will be heard by the Kentucky House of Representatives this week, which includes lifting a decades-old moratorium on nuclear power plants. The Senate passed the bill last week by a vote of  27-8.

Coal leads energy production in Kentucky by fueling more than 80% of the state's generation. While the state has no nuclear plants and very little renewable energy, including nuclear power would provide energy diversity and economic development in the bluegrass state.
