Illinois Introduces Future Energy Jobs Bill

Tracy Marc|

The Illinois General Assembly introduced new energy legislation (Future Energy Jobs Bill-Senate Bill 2814) yesterday that would give credit to the state’s nuclear power plants among other incentives for coal and a contentious demand charge.

While Exelon Generation announced earlier this year their plans to close the Clinton and Quad Cities facilities in Illinois, the new legislation would help give credit to the clean energy produced by nuclear reactors.

ANS President Andy Klein said, “It is our hope that all those involved in the negotiations, review of and voting on the Future Energy Jobs Bill will recognize the clean-energy benefits that nuclear power provides, and will look to New York’s ZEC approach as a model in preventing the early and permanent retirement of existing nuclear power plants.”

Illinois residents should act now to contact state legislators about their support for the bill.
