ANS Names Congressional Fellow for 2017

The American Nuclear Society (ANS) is pleased to announce Levi Wyatt Patterson has been selected for the prestigious Glenn T. Seaborg Congressional Science and Engineering Fellowship for 2017. As the ANS Congressional Fellow for next year, he will have a unique opportunity to work on Capitol Hill at the start of a new presidential administration.

“On behalf of ANS, I am excited to welcome Levi to an elite group of ANS members who have had tremendous opportunities to partake in the federal legislative process. With his experience and expertise in the nuclear industry, Levi understands the important role of nuclear in shaping a sound national energy policy. He will be perfectly poised to provide technical assistance as a congressional staffer on Capitol Hill,” said Harsh S. Desai, chair of the Special Committee for the Congressional Fellowship Program.

Patterson is currently a Nuclear Engineer/Technologist at General Electric Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), supporting several key projects ranging from new nuclear plants to reload analyses. Prior to joining GEH, Patterson graduated with a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Colorado School of Mines. Levi is an active member of the ANS Wilmington section and North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) local chapter.

He has been an active ANS member since 2012, with membership in the Operations & Power Division, Reactor Physics Division and the ANS Young Members Group.

As the ANS Congressional Fellow, Patterson will join 30 scientists and engineers representing other key scientific professional societies since initiating the fellowship program in 2000. ANS partners with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Congressional Science and Engineering Fellowship Program to administer this fellowship.
