Organizations Raise Concerns Re: Reported Elimination of NSC Director of Nuclear Energy Policy

The American Nuclear Society joined the Nuclear Infrastructure Council, Third Way, and Nuclear Energy Institute in a letter to Susan Rice, National Security Advisor to President Obama, expressing "deep concern over informed reports that the White House is contemplating the elimination of the position of the Director of Nuclear Energy Policy at the National Security Council."

The letter notes that the position was created in 2012 "to provide a pivotal whole government approach to critical strategic commercial and national security considerations relevant to the trillion-dollar global nuclear energy export market, where U.S. companies are competing with government-owned enterprises."

The organizations encouraged Rice to "work to ensure that the Director of Nuclear Energy Policy position is sustained."
