Gene Grecheck: Nuclear Energy must be part of the Climate Change Solution

Gene Grecheck

"Nuclear energy must be part of the COP21 climate change solution" was the message of a recent editorial written by ANS President Gene Grecheck.

In his commentary, Grecheck urges all nuclear professionals to broadcast the significance of giving nuclear energy the same consideration as other non-emitting energy sources in the days leading up to the Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change talks in Paris this December.

The article also references the letter he wrote to President Obama on behalf of the members of the Society, urging him to instruct the U.S. delegation attending the Paris talks to support removal of the outdated language during the deliberations and allow nations to pursue their own energy strategies without limiting the option of nuclear power.

Climate change will be an important focus at the ANS Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C. November 8-12 and Grecheck will be representing the Society in December at the COP21 meeting. The article was posted to The Hill on October 16.
