Nuclear Energy Scores High in Public Opinion Poll

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) recently released the summary of a fall 2015 Bisconti Research, Inc. public opinion poll that showed 84 percent of Americans believe nuclear energy should be important for America's energy future, and 50 percent responding that it should be very important.

Here are some more highlights of the public opinion poll:

• 95 percent of Americans said it is important to maintain energy diversity, and 73 percent said it is very important to do so.

• 83 percent agree that the presidential candidates should talk more about the importance of a diversified electricity mix for   America, and 53 percent strongly agree.

• 82 percent agree that we should renew the operating licenses of nuclear power plants that continue to meet federal safety   standards; 46 percent agree strongly.

The survey was conducted from August 30-September 16, 2015 via phone interviews with 1,000 adults. The full summary of the Bisconti poll can be viewed here.
